That was my initial thought when I tried putting on my favorite pair of jeans. This year I turned 40 and being the active type I generally eat what I want and when I want it. However earlier this year I started to notice a small change to my waist line. Nothing much, and it’s hard for others to notice, but certain jeans that have always fitted were now a bit too snug around the waist! So I decided to do something about it, something I have never attempted before because to be honest in my mind there wasn’t really a need.
I purposely started incorporating a healthy eating and drinking plan into my diet during the week. Don’t misunderstand me here, I have always tried to eat fruit and vegetables but not to an extent where I monitored or worried about it.
I also want to point out that I am not obsessive about it – I like my food too much! But I now try to plan and if possible prepare my food to eat and drink healthily during the week so I can treat myself to those not so good for me meals on a weekend along with the odd glass of my favorite vino.
But this is easier said than done….
We now live in a society where shops and businesses are open longer hours, where we have the internet to access practically any service we require from the comfort of our own homes 24 hours per day – Why is it with greater access to just about anything we need, that instead of having more time for ourselves, we actually seem to have less time to do the things we like and enjoy?
There are some days when I haven’t got time to think let alone plan and make something healthy to eat. You know the days I am talking about – You run from one job or meeting to another, you have three conflicting deadlines to meet and by 2pm you realize you’ve skipped lunch so you go and grab yourself a 1500 calorie sandwich and coffee from the nearest sandwich shop. Those bad boys taste great but I am now discovering that they can reap havoc on the waistline.
